Toggle the Visibility and Selection of Layers

You can toggle the visibility and selection of GIS layers and sub-layers (subtypes) on the map.

The following layers can be made visible and selectable from the Layers list:

  • Inspections
  • Work Orders
  • Service Requests
  • Cases
  • Case Tasks
  • Case Violations
  • Assets
  • GIS Features

IMPORTANT: Subtypes and sub-layers are only supported in Trimble Unity Field for Maintain.

You can manage which layers are selectable and/or visible from the Layers panel.

  1. On the map, tap the Layers icon.

The Layers panel opens and the following actions are available: 

  • Search bar: Tap to enter and search for a specific layer.
  • Visibility icon: Tap to toggle the visibility of a layer or sub-layer. To toggle visibility for all layers at once, tap the Visibility icon next to Select All.
  • Check mark icon: Tap the icon next to a layer or sub-layer to select it. To toggle selection for all layers at once, tap the Check mark icon next to Select All.

NOTE: Toggling a parent layer acts as a global switch. Turning a parent layer off hides all its child layers on the map, but preserves their individual visibility settings. When the parent layer is turned back on, any child layers that were previously enabled will reappear.

  1. Tap the Visibility icon to make layers visible.
  2. Tap the Check mark icon to make layers selectable.
  3. Tap X to close the panel.

The map automatically updates based on the selected layer and visibility settings.

On maps configured with an ArcGIS Utility Network, layers are organized into a nested hierarchy. You can tap the expand icon next to a layer to view its Asset Groups (Subtypes) and further expand those groups to view specific Asset Types.

  • Level 1 (Feature Layer): The broad category of assets (e.g., SSLine).
  • Level 2 (Asset Group/Subtype): A major classification (e.g., Gravity Main).
  • Level 3 (Asset Type): The specific classification (e.g., Vitrified Clay).

You can toggle visibility and selection at any level. Toggling a parent level (Level 1 or 2) affects all children below it, allowing you to quickly isolate specific assets on the map.
