Inspection Template Fields

NOTE: Some fields have visible character max limits. The first number is the current count of how many characters have been used. The second number is the max characters allowed in the field.

The following fields display on the General tab of an inspection template:

  • Name: Enter the name for the inspection template.
  • Id: Click copy template id to copy the inspection template ID.
  • Is Active: Select if this template is currently being used. Clear the check box if the template is no longer being used. The inspection history remains in the database, though, and can still be included in searches if the Include Inactive Templates and Tasks in Searches preference is selected on the General tab under Preferences. If any template is inactivated, it appears grayed out in the list of templates.
  • Description: Enter the description of the inspection template.
  • QA Model: Select either Branch or Linear for the questions/answers on the inspection:
  • Branch: Displays one question at a time and the answer selected determines the next question.
  • Linear: Displays all questions at once and the user responds to only the relevant questions.
  • Priority: Select the priority for this type of inspection. Priorities are defined on the Global tab on the Preferences page. See Preferences for more information.
  • Submit To: Select the default employee who receives this type of inspection.
  • Submit To Crew: Select the default crew who receives this type of inspection. Only the Submit To or Submit To Crew can be selected, both may not be defined.
  • Print Template: Select the print template to use when this inspection is printed. These print templates are configured in Preferences. See Add Print Templates for an Inspection for more information.
  • Duration: Select the estimated duration of the inspection, corresponding to the Duration Unit selected.
  • Duration Unit: Select either Days or Hours for the duration.
  • Effort: This is used to determine the work distribution and expected work activity completion. You can either enter the number of hours or days, depending on how your organization decides to use this field, needed to complete the inspection. This is for use with Workload. See Workload Guide for Trimble Unity Maintain and Trimble Unity Permit for more information.

NOTE: You can use Style to customize the Effort field name in Workload.

  • Repeat Cycle: Select Never if inspections created from this template are not cyclical. Select Once or Every if inspections created from this template are cyclical. Once is for an inspection requiring additional work one time. Every is used for regular, scheduled work that occurs at a certain interval.
  • Map Services - Printing: Select the map service to use when printing this inspection.
  • Required Employee Skills: Select the employee skills required to perform the inspection. If the Submit To is changed to someone who does not have the correct required skills, a warning occurs.
  • Require Asset on Close: Select to require an asset to be attached that is of the same type as the template. For example, if an inspection is created for a water main, a water main asset must be attached.
  • Allow Signature: Select to allow digital signatures to be captured on inspections in the Attachments panel in Respond.
  • Update Inspection XY when Asset Attached: Select to update the X and Y coordinates when assets are attached to the inspection.

NOTE: This check box is only applicable to existing unattached inspections and does not apply to the Create Inspection page. The inspection XY updates if an asset is attached initially during creation regardless of this check box status.

  • Calc. Condition Score: Select to calculate a condition score for an inspection created from the template. For example, there may be weekly inspections performed on an asset that you don't want factored into the condition score.
