To access real-time GIS feature and asset data collection in the field and record attribute data, you must configure user type, web map, and GNSS metadata settings.

ArcGIS User Type

Editing GIS asset data requires a Mobile Worker user type with the privilege to edit features.

If a user does not have this user type and privilege, they will be unable to make any changes to asset details.

1. Open your ArcGIS portal.
2. Confirm the mobile user has the Mobile Worker user type. If the user does not have the Mobile Worker user type, change the user type. See Change user types on Esri's website for more information.

3. Confirm the user has the privilege to edit features (through either Features > Edit or Features > Edit with full control).

Web Map Configuration

A web map must be created, configured and enabled for editing. Additionally, a user must have access to web maps in order to switch between web maps in the app.

1. Open your ArcGIS portal.
2. Create a map. See Create a map on Esri's website for more information.
3. Configure the map. See Configure the map on Esri's website for more information.
4. Design an editable layer. See Design an editable layer on Esri's website for more information.
5. Ensure the web map is shared with the appropriate users or groups in your organization. See Share a web map on Esri's website for more information.

GNSS Metadata Setup

To store GNSS metadata for features, particularly for line, polygon, and point features, your feature layers must have specific fields defined and attachments enabled.

1. Open your ArcGIS portal.
2. Enable attachments for your feature layers.
3. Define GPS metadata fields in your feature layers.

To allow users to search for spatial and non-spatial assets or addresses, both online and offline, you must configure search functionality for your web map.

This is done by configuring which layers are searchable.

1. Open your ArcGIS portal.
2. Configure feature and table search for your web map.

To create and download multiple offline map areas associated to a single web map, you must configure offline functionality for the web map.

Follow these requirements when creating an offline map area from an Esri web map for use with Trimble Unity Field:

1. Open your ArcGIS portal.
2. Enable all layers, including the basemap and reference layers, for offline use. The basemap must be available for offline download.
3. Enable synchronization on the layers.
4. Ensure the web map does not have any map services included.

To view and interact with GIS data in real-time based on your current location in the field, you must configure a web map in Trimble Unity Admin.

You can set up multiple web maps to support specific field workflows, allowing you to use the map that most efficiently presents the data you need to get your job done.

1. In Admin, click GIS.
2. Click GIS Services.
3. Click the Service Definitions tab.
4. Select the relevant service definition.
5. To add a new map service, click the add icon on the Map Services panel.
6. Select the Service and click Add. You can filter the list by typing the first few letters of the service in the search field.

The new service appears in the Map Services panel.

7. Use the drop-down list to change the service, if desired.
8. To change the order of the services, click the reorder icon to the left of the Service drop-down list and drag it to the desired location. The first map in the list will be the default map for the app.

IMPORTANT: The order of these services is important because the first layer is the default map in the app, and the services draw in the order that they appear in this panel, meaning the first layer draw on top, the second layer below that and so on. More transparent layers, like asset layers, should be placed at the top and more solid layers, like world imagery and TPK files, should be at the bottom so they don't cover up other layers.

9. Select Is Active to activate a service. If Is Active isn't selected, the service remains inactive.
10. Enter the Refresh interval (number of seconds) to indicate how often you want the service refreshed.
11. Select Sync Feature Layers in Mobile to allow the mobile apps to download sync-enabled feature services, including those in web maps, for offline use. The feature service can either be read-only, or editable (any changes made are synchronized once connected to the internet) depending on how your geodatabase is set up.
12. Select the desired uses for this service: Plugins and Mobile.
13. To configure multiple web maps, repeat steps 6-13.

To edit assets, the user must belong to a group with the necessary GIS rights.

Follow these steps to confirm a user's permissions:

1. In Admin, click Admin and click Groups.
2. Select the user's group.
3. Under the Group Details tab, confirm that the GIS Right drop-down list is set to either Attributes (for editing attributes) or Geometry (for editing shapes).

The following are not supported in Trimble Unity Field:

• Mobile map packages (MMPK): MMPKs are not supported.
• Map Image Layers: These layers are not supported. When added to a Service Definition, they will not render in the app. While map image services configured in a web map may render in the app, full interaction with their service layers (e.g. viewing asset attributes) will be compromised.
